Never has it occured to the typical Malaysian Kpop fan, especially a northern native, that a joint concert featuring two big stars from Korea would ever happen in this lifetime! Well-known as the ‘Stress Couple’ from Korean popular TV show, Running Man, Kang Gary and Jessica Jung were together again but this time, on stage to perform for “KPOP Sensation 2017” in Setia Space Arena, Penang.
Organized by Warriors Music Evolution, together with Galaxy Group, the “KPOP Sensation 2017” Concert was held at 8:00 PM on 16th September 2017 (Saturday), at Setia SPICE Arena. Prior to the concert, a public press conference was held on 6:00 PM, 27th June 2017 (Tuesday) at Festive Square of Gurney Paragon Mall (outdoor) Penang.
Both Jessica & Kang Gary made their appearance together at Public Meet & Greet in Gurney Plaza at 1:00PM on the same day of the concert, giving fans of both artists a chance to see them at a much closer range. Lucky fans were selected to receive a poster and both Jessica & Gary signed them right there and then. A few fans even managed to get selfies with them. We’re totally jelly!
The concert started at 8.00 pm with an opening by a local act, performing a mix of dance & singing.
Clad in a very simple white cream dress, Jessica Jung made her grand appearance by bringing everyone in the arena to her ‘Wonderland’. “GOLDEN STARS”, a tribute to Jessica’s fans who lit up her path during the dark times, brought on loud cheers. She then continued her magic with ‘Saturday Night’. This was her very first appearance right after the release of her new album ‘My Decade’, and so it was the first time she performed her new song, live! Jessica performed a few of her hits such as ‘Starry Night’, ‘Summer Storm’, ‘Naengmyung’ and then closed it with her debut solo song ‘Fly’.
The atmosphere of the arena took on a whole other level of excitement when Kang Gary, took to the stage! Proving his experience of more than 20 years, the singer-songwriter easily lit the stage while performing his best hits such as ‘동동’, ‘Get Some Air’, ‘Rush’ and ‘Girl Who Can’t Break Up, Boy Who Can’t Leave’. A powerful hip hop show by Kang Gary is always a treat, but this time around, it was even more so as Woo Hye Mi & DJ Panda were also there to perform together with Gary.
It is indeed a night to remember where Kang Gary and Jessica Jung both has becoming our favorite ‘northern lights’ that shine so bright in Penang. We wish more Kpop events would be held in this region in the hope that Korean stars would get to know Malaysia even better..
