[Concert] MTV World Stage in Malaysia 2013: EXO Steals the Night with their Performances

When it was announced that EXO would be part of the line-up for this year’s MTV World Stage in Malaysia, the response from fans was explosive. This is not surprising of the South-Korean group, whose popularity has  far surpassed its rookie status- the 12 boys of EXO have forged their way into the unforgiving industry with not only their stage performances, but also their astonishing good looks. SM Entertainment’s newest offerings have managed to attract fans of various demographics and nationalities, and whose passion has further catapulted their idols into the hall of fames of the Kpop industry.

This was evident during this year’s MTV World Stage. Fans queued early to grab a good spot to see their idols, stoically enduring the warm weather. Prior to the event itself, they had flocked to the multiple roadshows to participate in the activities that would give them the chance to win passes.

All that effort was well worth it when EXO finally came on stage, performing Wolf, History, 365, and closing with fan favorite and their latest single, Growl. Decked in the spiffy school uniform that is the concept for their current album, the boys looked fresh, young, and eager to please the crowd, although it must have been humid due to the rain. The rain certainly did not dampen the mood as fans sang along, screamed, and chanted to the songs.

For many in the audience, it was their first time watching the 12 boys as one unit, as they had promoted separately as EXO-M and EXO-K for their last album. EXO-M is catered for the Chinese market, while EXO-K is catered for the Korean one.

EXO were delightful in the talk segment, where they greeted fans in a mixture of English (Kris), Mandarin (Luhan) and Korean (Suho). They were very happy to be in Malaysia, and were honoured to be performing for an MTV production. Kris even lead the crowd in cheering “XOXO”, and the 12 were boyish and charming as they played with each other on stage.

It was definitely a night to remember, not only for EXO fans, but also fans of the other artistes present like Far East Movement, Robin Thicke and Joe Flizzow, as EXO fans showcased the passion well-known in the K-Pop fandom.
